Episode 046: Turning Inward to Find What’s Holding You Back

Since my work is all about career coaching, you may be wondering why we’re talking about therapy this week. After all, isn’t therapy just for when you need emotional/mental support—not career guidance?

Au contraire, dear listener. In fact, I think therapy and coaching can really complement each other, approaching the problem of “something about my life isn’t working” from different angles to help you find a well-rounded solution. Specifically, while coaching often involves a lot of exercises digging into the external facts of your life—skills, past experiences, strengths, and the like—therapy helps you do the tough work of turning inwards to find your truth.

This all may sound a little woo woo, but trust me, it’s not. I would not have successfully launched my business without the help of a therapist, and that’s why I’m so excited to be talking to licensed clinical social worker and therapist Aimee Barr this week about how she helps clients who are feeling stuck move forward.

In our conversation, we get into:

  • How our childhood conditioning affects our adult decisions
  • Why it’s important to learn to trust yourself and your intuition
  • Ways to identify and retrain the thought patterns that are holding you back
  • How working with a therapist can help with this process

I’m so excited for you to give it a listen and maybe rethink some of the things you thought you knew about therapy!
