Happy Equal Pay Day, listeners!
Despite the people out there who think the whole idea of a gender pay gap is fake news (seriously, I was blown away when I found out they exist), it’s real and it affects a lot of us. But despite knowing the problem, talking about money is hard, and figuring out how to advocate for ourselves is even harder (especially while avoiding the whole “aggressive woman” stereotype).
Claire Wasserman saw this playing out, and decided she wanted to help women talk about money. She held an event to do just that, which has since turned into Ladies Get Paid: a Slack community of 15,000+ women and a series of events all with the goal of empowering women to overcome their professional struggles (monetary and otherwise). I’m so excited to have Claire on the show today to chat all about getting paid what you deserve.
In addition to a really nifty activity to help you identify what you should be making (because internet research is not enough), we talk about:
As a bonus, we’ve compiled some of Claire’s top tips around negotiation into a handy guide that you can pull out anytime you’re facing that tough conversation—download it here!
Give it a listen and then give the gift of equal pay by sharing it with a friend who also could be making so much more. I can’t wait to see us all up our earnings—and close the wage gap together!
