Has your life ever been turned upside down by some kind of unforeseen event and as you go through it, it seems like there are never-ending layers to work through? I’m talking about a health incident, something happening with a loved one, an unforeseen layoff at your dream job- really, anything that scares the sh*t out of you goes here.
And have you ever wondered how on earth you’d pick up and move on after such a thing?
I think most of us have been there at one point or another or we will at some point, which is why I’m so excited to have certified Alexander Technique and meditation practitioner Dan Cayer, Founder of Fluid Movement, on today’s show, Episode 026: The Ultimate Example of Turning Lemons Into Lemonade: Career Edition.
I’ve known Dan since our embarrassing middle school days, but we became better friends as I dealt with a cray cray back injury and as we built our businesses alongside one another. So I know firsthand how he takes an innovative approach to pain management, which he’s talking about in his forthcoming book, “Don’t Get Better”. This is all based on a very intense personal experience with debilitating pain and an entire lifestyle change- which came as a shock to Dan, who recently had completed a cross country bike trip and applying to MFA programs.
All of that was not only put on hold, but also had to stop entirely. And Dan takes us through his journey of not only grappling with that complete life shift and all that came with it (e.g. “Am I dying?”), but also how he used the experience to develop his new career- basically the ultimate case of turning lemons into lemonade, IMHO.
I’m gonna stop yammering in a second, but before I go, take a peek at what we’re talking about on the show today, and then go grab the episode:
You don’t have to be in the thick of something right now to get something from this episode. What Dan and I discuss has ramifications on how you view your day to day, and how your thoughts about how Sally in accounting ‘looked at you weird’ can fuel some negative thought patterns that can trip you up on the job – even if you are feeling fine!
If you like what you’ve listened to, heart this post or leave us a comment! We read and answer every one.
